Each Measure Feature: Kevin Honold

FEATURE

Amidst the cold, winter months, Kevin Honold has released a new song that takes you to those warm, summer days where everything just felt right. “Honey” is a delightfully upbeat, pop-rock track where you can almost hear the waves in the distance. Kevin Honold did an excellent job with layering his melodies on this track. The acoustic guitar and bass keep a simple, light, groove that creates the foundation for this song. From there the horns are able to keep the song moving along, building layers upon layers to the tapestry and creating a soundscape that is soulful and incredibly catchy. I found myself humming along to this melody well after my first listening to it. This infectious melody is an almost fantastic discovery for me as it is a reminder of what good music is all about: sticking around in your head and demanding a replay.

But enough about the melodies and instruments, let’s talk about the lyrics of this song. “Honey” tells the tale of a summer love; that innocent romance that just captivates the soul and heart. It is a sweet song made even better by the continuous use of spices throughout the verses. He throws in cinnamon, cayenne, orange blossom, and more to great effect in the song. This strategic use of words alongside the rhyme scheme showcases the lyrical brilliance of “honey”. To further showcase his talent with lyrics, he has several tie ins to honey throughout the song like “Of tasting from the hive” and “Then off the spoon you slide”. While I know that many just appreciate a song for its beat, I, for one, always appreciate a constant theme or clever word play.

So, if you are looking for a break from your winter blues, you have got to go check out “Honey” by Kevin Honold on YouTube!
