Each Measure Feature: Ava Valianti

FEATURE

Go follow Ava Valianti now because you’re going to want to stay tuned for this girly. The new single “Deep Fuschia” is a vivid new evolution of this singer and songwriter. Since her first single, “bubble wrap”, Ava Valianti has seen a steady growth in her artistry. With an intoxicating voice and endless indie-pop feel-good vibes, this singer-songwriter will stick in your brain just how she wishes to stick in the brain of her new mysterious lover, as professed in this latest single.

Ava’s musical journey took off in 2023 with that first venture into the musical landscape. An obvious talent, she quickly caught attention, gaining listeners around the world, and is now working with musicians and a team between New York and Massachusetts (her home state). She continued popping out single after single, each one giving one more reason to fall in love with her sound. Now on over 300 radio stations and gracing some award-winning stages, she prepares for a tour of her latest EP “petunias” and gives us all hope for, hopefully, a million more songs down the line.

“Deep Fuschia” is a simmering, sultry love song rolling to a steady drumbeat as Ava’s voice wanders from deep sultriness to a warbling, folky register. The instrumentation stays simple and delightful, a minor chord progression that foregrounds her romantic and lustrous range weaving in between chords. After the first listen I was reminded of some of my 2024 top artists: Lizzy McAlpine and the rock-solid good time Olivia Rodrigo. Sure enough, with a little research, Valianti states her influence from not only these great women but also several other classics (Adele, Billie, and Lana). Given her rare talent, it’s likely her own name is already the listed inspiration for another artist.

Listening to “Deep Fuschia” I was so curious I went ahead and listened to “bubble wrap.” Still with stunning vocals and a raw studio feel to the mix, the contrast to her new sound is both apparent and complementary. Where her earlier sound contains the fluttering emotional quality, her latest shifts towards a grounded sense of empowerment with longer holds and an easygoing pace, the perfect melody to show her expressive abilities. Lyrically her style maintains the same fun vivaciousness, that perfect teenage tension captured with the cute bluntness of “You came over. Then you had to leave,” balanced with the fast-paced bridge, “Your public displays of affection are as romantic as actually sweeping me off my feet.” This last section is sung as if blurting out your thoughts with the newfound boldness when crushing on someone…hard. It's clear as she returns again to that smoky chorus; this singer is ready for whatever untamed love can throw at her.
