Each Measure Feature: The Confederation

FEATURE

One of the exciting aspects of writing music reviews is discovering an album that you can simply get lost in. It might be a perfect party album where you find yourself shuffling along to every song or an emotional powerhouse where you just need to put on some headphones, hit play, and stare at your ceiling for a little bit as you contemplate life. Then there are albums like Hypergravity by The Confederation where you hit play to get immersed into a world of story telling.

The album has a lot of variety with the tracks. Some like “You Do You (I’ll Do Me)” are upbeat and soulful while others like “Chandelier” are slower, more emotional and experimental. That being said, this album feels like a playground for the musicians. Unique effects are applied to the vocals to help show the different characters present throughout the album.

That being said, when you pay attention to the lyrics and musical compositions, a story starts to unfold before you. It is almost an art piece in the sense that you will want to take the time to analyze everything and see how each move by the artist contributes to the overall picture. This is what I love about the album and why it is a great one to listen to a few times all the way through. You will find new story threads to follow and new musical aspects that impact the story being told.

Influenced by Rock Operas and electronic music, Hypergravity by The Confederates is a wonderful work of art that tells a unique story through the various songs.
