Each Measure Feature: Frankie Muriel
FEATURE
Frankie Muriel’s “If I Say” is a summer rock-n-roll anthem in this reimagining. I loved how the song builds on itself starting with a simple acoustic guitar riff only to end with a screaming electric guitar and string section. This build up kept surprising me on my first listen and eager to hear what would happen next. By the second listen I was bobbing my head in the beginning and fully rocking out by the end. While the pacing of the song contributed greatly to the quality of this track, what really makes this song stand out is the masterful production. Every audio track is dialed in perfectly. The electric guitar is loud but not overpowering, the string sections are subtle but present and the drums are just a constant heartbeat pumping the song full of life. Another great move on the production part is the strategic use of audio panning. Because of that, I highly recommend listening to this song on either headphones or a decent speaker set-up to get the full effect.
But of course, what is a great rock-n-roll song without a powerful vocal performance? Frankie Muriel’s sound is that perfect whiskey-infused voice. He’s got impressive range and control, sure, but what makes his voice stand out amongst the rest is that little bit of a bite to it. This is what makes good rock music. His voice will take you back to a stadium show where you and your friends are jamming out into the night, singing along at the top of your voices.
Frankie Muriel is a rock-star through and through. From fronting bands like KINGOFTHEHILL and Dr. Zhivegas, Frankie Muriel has played sold-out clubs to stadiums covering over a decade of rocking. Now he is taking a step back into his roots, writing songs from the heart under his own name. Keep a lookout for his album later this year showcasing that Murial’s musicianship is like a fine scotch, only getting better with age.
