Each Measure Feature: Sophia Stephens

FEATURE

Meet seventeen-year-old Sophia Stephens, from Indiana. She spends most of her time perfecting the art of performance. She has written over 500 original songs and started her artistic career in the theater. Since she started many years ago, she writes and sings her originals as well as cover songs. This fall, she’s dropping her first album; she says it tells “the human experience"—it's’s a summation of her reflections from fifth grade to the last year of high school. She left some acoustic-style renditions of songs from the album’s on-stage performances. Keep an eye out for this up and coming talent.

A must-listen track for anyone who revels in the genre, “Fervor” is a dynamic production driven forward by explosive guitar riffs and broad-reaching vocal runs. The sound is a combination of alternative and dark pop, and demonstrates the sheer ability of Sophia’s songwriting. Her vocals are assertive and eager, leaving no area of her desires and wishes untouched. Simultaneously, the song walks the line between revealing the transparent and acknowledging the ambiguity and weak points of our fellow man. As the track advances, a wall of sound envelopes, with the peak of emotion in the chorus becoming a symbol of self-empowerment and hope. This record drags you into a breathtakingly beautiful world of discernment and self-realization. We look forward to what Sophia has in store in the near future.
