Each Measure Feature: Sam Palladio

FEATURE

As we plunge hard and fast into the summer, its time to start creating those summer playlists that turn sunsets into endless evenings of sticky necks and hanging around town.

Sam Palladio’s fresh single “Glitter” seems to be written precisely to be the top of that summer playlist. The dance pop tune easily has you head bobbing and singing along within the first two choruses. The lyrics follow more a moment than a story. That being the oh-so-relatable moment of being sparked by a new crush, and lying awake in bed imagining what they could be doing right at the moment. Palladio perfectly captures the excitement of a new interest and trying to keep yourself composed but secretly sometimes giving in to hopeless romantics with a tinge of dread.

Glitter arrives two years after Palladio’s first album aptly titled “The Perfect Summer’s Day, Before We Lost the Light”. From Glitter it’s hard to believe Palladio is a mere toddler musician on the scene. In some bizarre way Sam is fulfilling what was written for him, quite literally having played the singer songwriter Gunnar Scott in 6 seasons of ABC’s “Nashville.” Having only just discovered Palladio’s voice I’ve temporarily treated his acting history as a red herring to enjoying his musical voice offstage.

And what a voice Palladio has. It’s hard to believe the crisp southern voice is actually from Cornwall. The natural lilt and depth of his voice have that charming hint of country, a fun match to the disco-esque effects on instrumentation. It’s easy to imagine the scene Palladio sings of happening to both a 40 year old, or a 14 year old, both trapped in one’s feelings as the disco ball continues to endlessly fling light around the room. It’s those strong images that bring it to life in a timeless sense. Glitter is truly a perfect song for the summer and certified earworm. It proves once again that when it comes to falling in love, some feelings never change…
