I like to think that we all have a North Star person in our lives, someone who serves as a constant, comforting guiding light. Someone that, when times get dark, we can turn to and know that everything will be alright. This idea is captured beautifully in Oli Ng’s latest release, “Steadfast.” Through his relatable and powerful lyrics, Oli Ng writes a touching song that serves as a heartfelt “thank you” to those who have our backs and remind us that it will be alright.

One of the things I love most about Oli’s music is his writing style. His lines are down to earth, painting realistic pictures that we can all relate to. This gives the song a touching nature that lingers in our minds long after listening. A lyric that truly showcases this is the line, “You got a heart of gold any thief will want to steal.” It’s simple, excellent, and highlights the storytelling aspect of Oli Ng’s writing. This is one of the greatest strengths of his music: he turns out great line after great line. Another example is the lyric, “100 miles an hour will make the best of us dizzy.” In just a few words, he touches on grind culture, reminding us that even the best people can’t constantly push forward without sacrifice. It can be a bit jarring to confront that idea in a song, but that’s likely why he repeats the comforting refrain, “it will be alright,” so often.

The instrumentals of the song are just as captivating. Oli utilizes a singer-songwriter approach to the main guitar, building the track around simple chords played with intention and precision. When combined with a catchy chorus and ethereal harmonies, the result is a beautiful, immersive soundscape. “Steadfast” is a warm reminder of the people who guide us, a testament to heartfelt songwriting, and another standout entry in Oli Ng’s growing catalog.
