I have always been a fan of late-night drives, especially during chiller weather. I love rolling down the windows and letting my mind wander, but what really makes these moments magical is the song in the background. “Can’t Do It Right” by OLI is the perfect soundtrack for such a vibe.

This moody pop song has one of my favorite musical productions. With a piano, guitar, and drums, OLI has crafted a chilled masterpiece. To me, it is reminiscent of a well crafted cocktail. All the elements blend well together, but nothing is screaming out at you. They all work together subtly to create an experience that you have never had before, inspiring you to come back for more once it’s done. The piano takes the lead with the melody and while it is mostly simple chords, they are matched perfectly with the drums and acoustic guitar bringing momentum to the piece. All the while, OLI’s smooth voice is bringing it all together.

And while the song is a generally upbeat affair, the lyrics tell a different story. OLI sings about how “no one tells you when you are right,” but “they all tell you when you are wrong”, talking about the struggles of feeling like a failure. This is a heartbreaking reality that many of us can relate to. In fact, it is this feeling that inspires us to take a late night drive and reminds ourselves that it will all be OK. Sometimes we just need to feel and let it drift into the night wind.
