This song is what makes jazz bar music great. You’ve got tight, snappy drums keeping the beat allowing for the rest of the musicians to just have fun with the song. The bass and piano play off of each other, offering dynamic changes throughout the piece, keeping the ear constantly longing for me. They do this by playing varying, slower rhythms compared to the drums which was a great move in my opinion. Yet, no matter the changes brought about, everything works together. And while the drums keep the beat together, what truly ties all of this together is Odelete’s fantastic vocals.
To me, her voice is of a siren from Greek mythology calling out to sailors. You are drawn into every wispy note, leaning closer in your chair to catch every word. Speaking of her voice, I couldn’t get over the control Odelete has over it! From holding out notes for impressive amounts of time to her extensive range, her vocal talent is obvious. What might be the secret ingredient to this whole song is the underlying element of fun. You can tell that everyone is just enjoying themselves while performing. No one is trying to grab the spotlight, they are just creating great music for themselves and listeners. This is why I found myself transfixed in my chair, hanging on to every note. When the song ended I immediately hit repeat to experience it all again, and again.
Odelete was born in Detroit, MI but currently resides in California. Living in these two different walks of life spills over into her music as it too is a combination of several different influences. She produces all of her own music and, to that end, co-founded a music production company with her long time collaborator Jack. These two working together produce incredible, unique music that is hard to pin down within any one genre. They have several projects in the works so be sure to keep an eye out for their updates!
