Each Measure Feature: Milyam

“Intimacy” by Milyam is a song that is unlike anything you have ever heard before. It has a complex audio profile like a fine wine. At first, it strikes you as a simple pop song for the club but, soon into the track, you realize that there is a lot more going on underneath the surface. This is a sultry club song perfect for late summer nights out on the town where you have lost track of time.

The drums carry the melody, reminiscent of a typical pop/trap beat. However, instead of following in the steps of so many mainstream artists, Milyam switches it up. Where it would have been safe and boring to go for an energetic pop song, she slows it down with her vocals and other instruments creating wonderful tension amongst the melodies. This pulls the listener in two directions, one being the slow, easy going nature of her voice, the other the exciting drum melody. This tension breathes a refreshing life into the song, causing it to be fun and dynamic alongside encapsulating the thrill of staying out too late at a club where part of you wants to slow down and go home, the other wants to see where exactly the night will end. 

On top of that is the unique vocal style of Milyam. Her voice is almost like a whisper at some parts which really draws you into the song. Combine this with her unique auto-tune flair and you have got a distinct sounding voice that establishes her onto the music scene. This song proves that Milyam is pushing creative boundaries in the best way and I am looking forward to seeing what she does next.
