Each Measure Feature: Maria Deirisarri

FEATURE

With haunting vocals, beautiful guitar, and perfect harmony, “Parabellum” by Maria Deirisarri and Corey Kilgannon is a fantastic song that’s got me hooked. It's a song that I envision being played in a smoky French bar late at night. Maria and Corey’s vocal performances play off of each other perfectly. From alternating verses to signing in harmony, their voices carry the song and showcase the powerful story of the song.

Lyrically is where this song truly shines. The lines tell a tragic story about love. All the verses contain a repetition of the line “let me go”, illustrating how one party is trying to move on after the breakup. But this is only one side of the tale. It’s not only about trying to move on but regret as well. Looking closely at the lines, you’ll see that there is frustration at how things ended and regret. I loved how this played out and found myself analyzing every line finding further notes about the story. This is why I love this song dearly: it's a story that manages to capture the true essence of a break-up. Please go and listen to this song and have a box of tissues nearby, it’s got an emotional punch at the end.
