“Holy” by Jacre and Lucie Glang is a much needed reminder for the modern age. It’s a song about unplugging from the world and going back to “holy places” where we can avoid “the feed of scrolling vices.” In an age of grind culture and constant messages, encouraging us to always be doing something, Jacre and Lucie break the noise and remind us to “..watch the trees and learn their freedom.” It’s a beautiful message delivered in a beautiful way creating a wonderful, relaxing tune.
The song starts off in a fragile way with soft, gentle focals and guitar. This, I believe, is to enhance the overall message of the piece. It’s not a call to arms against the world but a gentle reminder that we do need to take care of ourselves and not be comparing our lives to the fabricated ones on social media. The melody of this song is the gentle breeze blowing around you while you sit on a grassy hill, just taking in nature. To this effect, when the song picks up, I believe this to be rife with further meaning. We can’t spend every day unplugging or sitting amongst the trees, just like how the song doesn’t stay quiet. No, we do have days where we need to be on social media or grinding, but we must not forget to visit our holy places and unwind.
A great, relaxing song with an even greater message. I highly recommend listening to this song and taking the message to heart by simply sitting down and listening, undistracted.
