“Mind - Vs. - Heart” by Elena C. Lockleis and Natalia Zuk hooked me in immediately with its unique sound. The song’s melody comes from an acoustic guitar playing a complicated strumming pattern. It's catchy but given the tricky nature of it, I was curious how the rest of the song was going to sync-up with this but the vocals and other instruments play perfectly along to the intricate melody. This creates a unique groove that I thoroughly enjoyed.

What I liked the most about this song was the lyrics. The song tells a story of the narrator struggling to give love another chance–a feeling that most of us can relate to. There are powerful lines expressing this struggle like “...My mind says that I’m better off alone ‘cause I’m so broken inside but my heart says just let you in”. The lyrics go on to tell how the narrator is looking at their lover, about to leave, wondering if they should take the next step in the budding relationship or leave now and prevent possible heartbreak. It’s obvious that this song is from the heart, giving it that raw, emotional appeal making the lyrics more impactful. This, along with the instrumentals, reveals that this song was produced with care and diligence. Which, speaking of, I love how the end of the song calls back to the beginning. It wraps up the little narrative moment yet leaves the door open just a crack to have you wondering the fate of the couple. I won’t spoil this and encourage you all to go listen to find out the details of the narration!

Overall “Mind - Vs. - Heart” by Elena C. Lockleis and Natalia Zuk is a catchy, easy-going song that talks about the struggles of love.
