“Talk2u” by DIV1NE is a unique track. At first, it was a bit hard for me to pin down my thoughts on it, but it has grown on me and now, well, I am loving the song. It starts oﬀ with a nostalgic techno beat, almost reminiscent of soundtracks from 1980’s videogames. This, paired with the soothing rain sounds, draws the listener in, building up the anticipation for a techno inspired song about something tragic, probably heartbreak. However, just when you are expecting a soft, gentle voice to start singing about sadness, you are hit in the metaphoric face with a harsh tone shift.

A heavy handed synth sound breaks through, cutting the rain oﬀ and truly starting the song. Here, DIV1NE raps about the struggles of a heartbreak and the desire to talk to the ex one last time. You can almost feel his emotions and sadness coming through his words. To highlight this raw, powerful storytelling, he throws in some heavy drums, combining it with the synth from earlier, but as the song progresses, this synth changes its tune. It becomes organized chaos, enticing the ear to try and keep up. I thought that this was a genius move. It conveys the turbulent emotions that follow a break up and how diﬃcult it is to figure out what’s next.

As the song progresses, the intro sequence returns, which adds another excellent layer to this catchy song. To me, I thought that this was DIV1NE reflecting on the beginning of the relationship—how it started oﬀ simple and turned into something harsh and tragic.

“Talk2u” by DIV1NE is a unique take on a break-up song and one that makes me excited to see what else is going to come from this talented UK artist.
