Each Measure Feature: Brother Dolly
FEATURE
In today’s music scene, it is hard to stand out. If you try too hard to reinvent the wheel, your sound will confuse listeners and push them away. However, if you are not adventurous, you will wind up being lumped with a thousand other, similar sounding artists, resulting in no one knowing who you are. This is a tight line that musicians today must walk and often, many fall short. But there are the few, brave souls who walk it with grace and create a sound that is exhilarating and exciting. Brother Dolly is a new band that has walked this line with ease and elegance with their latest song “As I Fall I Feel Alive.”
The song starts off with a sound similar to that of a computer warming up. Then, amongst this electronic noise comes angelic voices. From this moment Brother Dolly lets us know that they are not like other, boring bands: they are here to leave a wonderful music mark. From there, the song becomes a beautiful, slightly up-tempo song about life.
What makes this song unique is the strange electronic noises occurring throughout the track. Normally, this would be distracting and feel random. For this song, each and every sound effect builds the song. It sounds purposeful and musical like a master composer making songs from things around the house. This speaks of the masterful skill of the musicians behind the project. The song is full of wonderful musical moments from the aforementioned piano to horns to simple, catchy drums. I have not heard anything like this song and I keep hitting repeat wanting more.
