Each Measure Feature: Anna Thoresen

FEATURE

With her latest single, “DIRTY LAUNDRY,” Los Angeles-based artist Anna Thoresen brings us a passionate anthem of female empowerment and personal liberation. She released the single on May 31st, 2025, and it’s now available for streaming online.

Notably, “DIRTY LAUNDRY” is an entirely individual work; Thoresen handled the writing, recording, and production on her own, an impressive feat for one person, but not surprising given her passion for every aspect of her craft. In addition to taking full control of the creative process, Thoresen has been open about allowing personal experiencing to inform her songwriting. She describes “DIRTY LAUNDRY” as “inspired by her own struggles with mistreatment from men, igniting a fire within her to create this empowering track.”

Using the proverbial dirty laundry as its central metaphor, the track explores the singer’s rage and frustration at being hidden from the world like an unpleasant secret rather than respected and admired for her humanity. The result is a cathartic release designed to resonate with any woman who has ever felt used or marginalized by the people who were supposed to love her.

Musically, “DIRTY LAUNDRY” grabs from the start with a steady, swinging rhythm and catchy chorus. That’s because Thoresen lets herself be inspired by the greatest of the great. She names Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, and Amy Winehouse among her biggest influences, and with its crunchy guitars and wailing vocals, there’s more than echo of the rock ‘n’ roll tradition in “DIRTY LAUNDRY.”

“DIRTY LAUNDRY” is a multi-layered confessional. It gives vent to the kind of rage frustration that women, historically, are supposed to cover up. Thoresen uses the track to air her own grievances, and by extension, those of all her listeners. It’s that act of rebellion through performance that makes “DIRTY LAUNDRY” a true rock anthem.

Thankfully, we haven’t heard the last of this up-and-coming rockstar. She’ll be showing off her high-energy artistry at the WFNM Showcase on July 1st. In the meantime, I’ll be listening to “DIRTY LAUNDRY” on repeat.
