Each Measure Feature: Thomas Deed

FEATURE

Love always finds a way, especially when it’s meant to be.

That’s a sentiment that has kept many dreams alive and brought many happy couples together over the years. It’s also the theme of Thomas Deed’s new release “Always Almost (feat. Steffi)”, a fairytale-worthy love song with personal roots.

“Always Almost” was released on August 7th through Deed’s Hicktown Records label. To record the song, the Rosenheim, Bavaria-based artist teamed up with producers Reinhard von Wegen, Dennis Schwachhofer, and Mick B. Hardt. Appropriately, he also chose to make the song a duet, enlisting Steffi, the other half of his own love story, to sing with him.

In all of his releases, Deed has shown a penchant for personal and deeply emotional storytelling, and “Always Almost” is no exception. The soaring ballad tells the story of two lovers who keep meeting over the course of years, always yearning for one another, but never quite crossing the threshold into romance. Until now. It’s a classic romantic triumph that reminds us why it’s important to never give up on love, and it’s made more powerful by the fact that it’s based on Thomas and Steffi’s real-life relationship.

Underscored by a cinematic, pop-rock inspired soundscape, the song lets Thomas and Steff each tell their own half of their story. The result is a sweetly sentimental and passionate duet that is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever wondered if true love is really out there waiting for them.

Along with the track, Deed also released a music video that combines real footage of himself and Steffi recording the song in the studio with an animated reimagining of their love story as they explore the magical world they’ve found in each other. With a Disney-like charm, the video gives Thomas and Steffi’s relationship the fantasy treatment it deserves while letting the song’s cinematic potential shine.

My final verdict: “Always Almost” is a powerful tribute to the joy that comes with finding the person you’re meant to be with. Listening to it, especially with the video, feels like watching a happy couple on their wedding day. A love like that is such a special thing to be able to witness.
