In today’s music scene, there are far too many artists simply pushing out albums and songs, not caring at all if there is any soul behind the tracks. This can lead to music burnout amongst listeners as we continue to give our time to lifeless, generic additions to the current music scene. But, ever so often, you will find that fresh voice amongst the stale chorus that makes you excited about new music again. This is what otinshh does with his latest EP MISSIN’ OUT.
The production of this album is absolute quality. It feels sleek throughout all of the tracks but not in a boring, overly polished way. He brings a vibrant creativity to his tracks through infectious melodies. This is accomplished through wonderful, daring combinations like a jazzy bass over fast rapping only to be elevated with a backing piano melody. Songs bounce between genres, effortlessly blending R&B with pop and soul. I loved this unique style of otinshh. Listening to each song, it becomes clear that otinshh has an ear for music production.
The best word to describe this album would be fun for two reasons. One, you can tell that otinshh enjoyed himself with crafting these songs. This, I believe, is what creates his unique soundscape. He isn’t afraid to blend different elements together and this creates a fantastic listening experience. With each listen, it feels like I am discovering a new element to appreciate: something that is only possible when an artist truly enjoys and loves the songs that they are creating.
The second reason is tied to the overall vibe of the EP. Each song feels like it belongs in the background of an energetic house party. Otinshh does an excellent job of keeping the beat up throughout all of the songs which would make it perfect for a party playlist. Yes, there are some sections that are slowed down but this EP was designed to effortlessly flow from one song to the next. It’s easy to have on in the background and not even caring if it repeats because it is that good.
