Each Measure Feature: Michellar

FEATURE

San Francisco-based artist Michellar ushers in new beginnings with a single titled “Let’s Go Move Around!” Featuring an upbeat melody and enthusiastic lyrics, the song sounds like the burst of energy that comes with springtime.

Michellar wrote the music and lyrics to “Let’s Go Move Around!” independently, but Romanian producer Marius Alexandru helped to craft and polish the final product. The result of their collaboration is a lively anthem of rebirth and euphoria, which was released on May 9th of this year and can be heard on the artist’s Soundcloud page.

Michellar has cited Ed Sheeran as a major influence on her music, and while Sheeran’s vibes are certainly felt in the crisp, clean staccato of the instrumentals, I’m also struck by how wholly unique she sounds on “Let’s Go Move Around!” With breathy vocals, delicate harmonies, and a melody that sounds almost otherworldly, Michellar establishes herself as a true original with an obvious passion for her craft.

“Let’s Go Move Around!” is a rare case of a song where the music and lyrics seem to be intimately married and enjoying a truly equal relationship rather than a battle for supremacy. Nothing about the song feel forced or unnatural. On the contrary, I get the feeling that Michellaris just singing and playing what feels right, and that’s what gives her art its infectious joy.

If the purpose of music is to express the experience of being alive, “Let’s Go Move Around!” achieves this in the purses sense. It doesn’t attempt to tell a story or teach a lesson. It’s simply a celebration of being alive and wanting to experience all of the possibilities the world has to offer. There’s a certain innocence to the message that’s irresistible and perfectly captures the feelings of spring.

My final verdict: if you need a little extra sunshine in your life, add this song to a motivational playlist or put it on in your car to brighten up your daily commute. Let Michellar’s bouncy melody and passionate lyrics remind you how much joy there is to be found in the everyday.
