Round this time every year the question lingers for any listener: what is the song of the summer? Aside from the obvious contenders racing for the title (I’m looking at the line of all very well-deserving pop princesses and their ever-expanding empire), there are always a few wild cards that wriggle their way to a steady presence on your road trip radio. And Max Barskih’s new single,, “Sound of Bloom,,” could be just the song to fill that spot.

It takes half a listen to know that this new track is undeniably cool and sexy. The artwork alone is giving breezy pool party vibes, and the song does not disappoint. It radiates that casual confidence and and refreshing subtlety, making it an easy pick for any festival dance pit. A driving beat carries the song along with a lighter-than-air energy eased by carefree vocals and a steadydy groove of subtle but present rhythmic tracks. The lyrics themselves are a good old summery love potion with an unshakeable hook, the kind that sticks around pleasantly for a few days after listening. Masterfully produced with perfectly balanced sounds, the song ebbs and flows,, always keeping that head-bobbing rhythm without exploding beyond its easygoing emotion. It points towards obvious experience, strategically released in anticipation ofa new (and first fully English-language) album.

With an impressive history in competitive and performative singing, this Ukrainian artist is very familiar with crafting instant hits. Finding a name for himself in the 2000s and 2010s, his fan base has been growing over the years sprouting first from his home country. A steady stream of performancess and singles has tracked his music career to the present, where it literally seems to be going into new territories both sonically and geographically.

Barskih’s name now moves westward with this new album. Early releases show some diversity with the melancholic “Stomach Butterflies” and angsty “Someone New.” His hope with this new album is to hit a new audience with fresh energy and diversity in his music. But while this is his first English language album, it seems this artist has rather expanded upon his sound. Drawing his strengths to higher heights without compromising that originality for the sake of renown. There are decades of experience behind his work. If this new single is any promise for whats to come, it seems that Barskih is hitting this new chapter with all that same energy boosted by the wisdom of working hard and keeping his spirits up.

Wonderfully intriguing and refreshingly energetic, “Sound of Bloom” could be a poeticic anthem of that ambition, drawing an image of bursting forth with color, delicacy, and beauty. From Max himself, “It’s incredibly important for me to lift people’s spirits and make them feel summer. A summer that’s not only about blooming flowers ut also about our souls blooming. When you just want to feel the dance and lose yourself in the music.”
