Each Measure Feature: Lynden
FEATURE
Lyden is a new name in the pop scene, but his debut single, “Sunset BLVD,” proves that he’s well on his way to mastering the complex art of songwriting. With the irony and wit of a Shakespearean sonnet, the song harmonizes the conflicts of the mind with the rhythms of the heart, setting the stage for a vibrant and innovative musical career.
Released on June 6th, 2025, “Sunset BLVD” is a Lynden’s first single, but it’s anything but amateurish. On the contrary, it comes from the mind of someone who truly understands the interplay between music and lyrics. It shows that Lynden is a storyteller and a poet as well as a composer, evidenced by the vivid central metaphor around which he weaves his narrative: a tripdown the titular Los Angeles thoroughfare.
Through this symbol, Lyden explores the conflict and heartache that comes with a romance that was doomed from the start. He describes a journey rife with obstacles and set-backs while reminiscing on his first meeting with his lover on the very road that has since torn them apart.
Lynden juxtaposes his story of love turned sour with a silky-smooth funk-inspired soundscape. Making his themes even more timeless, he incorporates acoustic instruments and refrain from the use of autotune, drawing instead from the vintage sound of classic R&B and soul music.
All of these elements blend seamlessly together to create the raw and natural sonic texture that underscores Lynden’s exploration of a uniquely human experience, but for me, the standout feature is the singer’s expressive voice. Among his influences, Lyden names icons such as Prince and Micheal Jackson, and he’s clearly learned a lot from their vocal artistry. Nothing kills lyrical beauty like a performer who doesn’t know how to interpret his material, but Lyden imbues every line he sings with power and feeling, and in my mind, that’s what elevates the single from good to great.
In “Sunset BLVD”, Lyden tackles the difficult task sorting through conflicting emotions. His ultimate message is one that is both poignant and universal: the roads of love are rough, but we keep going down them because they’re just too irresistible to pass up. Lyden has a true sense of adventure about his musicianship, and I can’t wait to see what roads he’ll take us down next.
