Each Measure Feature: Hila Rabby and Shai Yuval

FEATURE

I had to listen to A Moment in Time by Hila Rabby and Shai Yuval a few times to find the right word to describe its soundscape. After a few wonderful listening sessions I had finally found it: surreal. Throughout every song are these enchanting synth sounds that create an almost mystic quality to every song and exist almost like a theme. The synths connect every song together, creating a wonderful sense of cohesion to the album. They take their turn being both the main feature and background noise, a great musical move as it further draws you into the album.

Amongst all of this are some instruments, mainly a piano, saxophone, and drums. I personally loved the simplicity of the instrumentals. This album just goes to show you that there is nothing wrong with simple. In fact, simple done well is perfection as evident by this album.

It is also because of these simple instruments that you start to piece together the true nature of the album and that is emotion. It is obvious that the musicians crafted these songs in a way to mimic their own hearts. The lyrics are wonderful, telling tales of love and the worries about it alongside the hopes.

When you listen to this album, make sure to listen to it all the way through. You’ll want to cry, hug a friend, and laugh while reflecting on the lyrics, the soundscape, and how it all is connected. Though if you were to pick one song to check out, my current favorite would be “Beauty Valley.”
