What would you do if you had a billion dollars? It’s a question most of us have pondered at least once in our life. Of course, there are the lavish answers involving houses, super cars, maybe even helicopters. Then there are the humanitarian ones talking of the charities to donate to. A billion dollars truly has a lot of power and, if applied for good, one could truly change the world. This is the idea behind Dylan Taylor’s latest single, “Billion Dollars.” In this catchy, indie folk song, Dylan explores the power of wealth and how important empathy is in relation to it.

I love the introspection created by Dylan Taylor’s lyrics. She takes a simple idea, receiving a billion dollars, and flips the narrative on its head. Instead of a simple, happy tune about spending the money on “fun” items, she uses her musical platform to bring awareness to issues like homelessness and domestic abuse. Dylan takes on some tougher topics, yes, but this just showcases her courage. That courage is admirable and lends itself to the song, giving it a raw, powerful feel throughout.

While all of this can lead the listeners a bit melancholic, Dylan reminds us of the power of unity. Yes, it can feel bleak, but this is why we, “Let em know they’re never alone, Even when they’re feeling down.” By connecting with each other, we build community, strengthening ourselves and proving that through love and support, anything can happen.

This is why I love Dylan Taylor’s latest single: it evokes these wonderful ideas of the world. She allows listeners to think by providing a simple backing melody to her unique voice.
