Each Measure Feature: Clay Brown

FEATURE

Listening to “No Place” by Clay Brown and the Trouble Round Town, you can feel the raw emotion that powers the alt-rock track. The grungy guitar riffs and powerful vocal performance all work together to make the song feel delicate and personal. This I loved as it almost feels like through the song we get to see inside the mind of an artist, struggling to make sense of a chaotic situation. There are elements of grief, new beginnings, but this is overwhelming hence the line “there’s no place in my head for this.” Clay Brown talks vulnerably about a struggle that we all face: the feeling of being overwhelmed. And what better way to make us connected than through music.

I love the driving guitar riffs of this song. They work perfectly together with the subject matter to remind us that music is a great tool to not only process our emotions but put our worries aside. It starts off slowly, eventually building to powerful power chords that drive the song home, into greatness. To me, the whole thing reminds me of what was great about the alt-rock wave of the early 2000’s. This song if fun, catchy, all while exploring the scary reality of being vulnerable and just trying to process it all.

While Clay Brown has played in several bands, now he is sitting down with himself and showing the world what he is capable of. I for one am excited to see where this journey will go. Afterall, if this song shows anything, it is that Clay Brown and the Trouble Round Town is going to be a project to keep a close eye on.
