In the wake of the harrowing flames of the music industry, BRENNYBOOMBOX, the self proclaimed popstar that never was, breathes new life into the pop scene. After a decade of false starts and unfulfilled endings, Brenny’s popularity rose with the release of “FREE BRITNEY.” Unable to escape the nagging apprehension that his fire had smoldered, he retreated for a brief journey of self-discovery, then went back in with all the vested vigor. His music and his love for his lifetime idol, thrust him into the limelight when he played his song at the pivotal Los Angeles rally celebrating the judge’s choice to free Britney Spears from her conventional chains. Eager to entertain, he rushed back to the studio, demonstrating that there is, in reality, a great deal more BOOM left in his box.
“Unhinged” goes deep into the violent throes of depression, shedding light on its most dangerous and isolating facets. Pulsating synths and hard baselines drive the production and set the pace of the record. The song openly admits to the danger of the downward spiral, expressing a desire to escape the clutches of the suffocating death spiral of emotion. Underneath the struggle is a barely detectable undercurrent of resistance, the will to keep smiling and dancing to the end. During the pain of a depressive crisis, the song explores the struggle of having to put up with pretenses and go about one’s everyday life while the internal struggle between raging emotions is violent. However, beneath the chaos of suffering is a mild rebellion—the willingness to persist through the storm, even if one must indeed force a smile and dance.
