Each Measure Feature: Alex Wellkers

FEATURE

Back in Switzerland in 2014, arousing his enthusiasm, Alex Wellkers started his solo project. Since the tender age of six, Alex has explored music, first the accordion and the harmonica, then the keyboard and the classical guitar, and only upon finding his true voice in blues—the electric guitar. Starting with rap, Alex gradually switched to grunge and rock, mostly composing in English. From 2014 to 2021, Wellker’s discography underwent a transition from minimalistic acoustic instrument numbers to filled fusion-like productions with a variety of instruments. In 2022, Alex issued his debut album, which remains a testimony to his growth as a composer. Teasing the latest announcement of his 2024 release with the creation of his recording label, Wellkers is keeping an eye on breaking limits, breaking stereotypes, and capturing the public imagination.

“Fly Away” is a compelling treat for all pop and rock spectators, flawlessly combining classical instruments with the power and intensity of rock sounds. It merged violas, violins, and electric guitars with one soloist’s voice at the forefront. It began with the rich sound of acoustics: “You Want Us.” Then Fly Away gradually grew into something big until it reached epic proportions that captured the listener’s mind. The fifth track will probably be on the German audience’s minds, and the sixth’s small pop melody will comfort the francophones. For pop-driven fans, “Amy” is for you, while the ever-fast finale “Do Not Fall” brought music to its climax in the style of multilingual hip-hop. “Fly Away” is a must-listen for listeners who are fans of diversity.
